Consent Like a Pro
Consent isn't a one-time checkbox—it's an ongoing conversation.
The Consent Continuum
Consent should be:
- Freely given: No pressure, coercion, or manipulation
- Reversible: Anyone can change their mind at any time
- Informed: Everyone knows what they're agreeing to
- Enthusiastic: "Yes!" not "I guess..."
- Specific: Agreeing to one thing doesn't mean agreeing to everything
Practical Consent Tools
Safe Words
A safe word is a pre-agreed word or signal that means "stop immediately."
Common systems:
- Traffic Light: Green (good), Yellow (slow down), Red (stop)
- Unique Word: Something memorable like "pineapple"
- Non-Verbal: Dropping an object, tapping out
Negotiation Frameworks
Before any scene or activity:
1. Discuss desires and expectations
2. Share hard limits (absolute no's)
3. Share soft limits (maybe's)
4. Agree on safe words/signals
5. Plan aftercare
